A scoreless contest was busted open in the second half of Tuesday’s Class 6A East Regional tournament semifinal, sending the sixth-seeded Lawrence High Lions to a season-ending 3-1 loss against visiting Blue Valley North Mustangs.

Free State’s Huston takes all-around crown at Emporia Invitational, leads Firebirds gymnastics to runner-up finish; Lawrence delivers its best score of season
Free State scored a 94.100, taking second behind Newton’s 94.350 in the Emporia Invitational. Freshman Harper Huston won the all-around title at the event with a 33.45, well ahead of the 31.500 for the runner-up in Newton’s Coe’lina Mosqueda.

Free State’s Stancil reaches Day 2 of 6A state golf, finishes 42nd; youthful Firebirds hope state experience will benefit team’s future
Free State sophomore Laurel Stancil led the way for the Firebirds at the 6A state tournament. Stancil shot a 90 on Day 1, allowing her to make the cut for Day 2 by a few strokes. Free State collectively shot a 397.

Free State boys, girls XC teams earn top-3 finishes at regionals to punch tickets to state; Lawrence High’s Schwartz and Garrett also qualify to compete at Rim Rock
Lawrence Free State’s boys and girls cross country teams, along with Lawrence High runners Oliver Schwartz and Andie Garrett, punched their tickets to the KSHSAA Class 6A champion meet on Saturday.
